Sports Performance Training for Lincoln and Seward Athletes
Speed, agility and power for athletes ages 8 to 18 in every sport. Coached by me, Von Thomas, in Seward. About 25 miles from Lincoln.
There are gyms in Lincoln. So why do families drive to Seward?
I have a family that drives their son from Ceresco to Seward to train with me. That’s 35 to 40 minutes each way.
You already drive farther than that for a weekend tournament. But for training, every week, they had other choices. There are good gyms in Lincoln.
Here’s the difference they get:
They have access to me. If their son needs help with something outside of speed and agility, I’m there for him. I’m flexible with them on scheduling, too.
Their son is learning from somebody who has run fast. I’m a product of the program I’m teaching. Everything I coach, somebody coached me first.
Who taught me

I grew up in Miami. In high school, two coaches made me fast: Coach Mario Smith and Coach Pearson Sutton.
They ran a speed camp. That workout is where things got clear for me: how to move in different ways, speed, agility, strength, with a little conditioning mixed in. I used it in every sport I played. Football was my main one, and I loved basketball, where you have to jump and move side to side. I competed at a high level because of those coaches.
They taught me more than speed. They taught me about life. What you’re going through right now is going to prepare you for your adult life.
Shout out to Coach Mario for bringing speed camp back. I just saw it on Facebook. Coming up in that program is a big part of why I opened this business in Nebraska. I know the content because I lived it.
Then I came to Seward to play quarterback at Concordia, and left as a record-setting quarterback.
What playing quarterback taught me about confidence
At Concordia I learned to throw the football with confidence. Confidence changes the timing and the whole game. If you hesitate, that’s often the difference between a touchdown and an interception.
It’s the same for a 12-year-old in a footrace. A kid who thinks “I’m faster than you from here to there” got that belief from reps. Getting rid of false steps (the little extra step backward or sideways before a kid takes off). Pushing through the first 10 to 15 yards. Being aggressive while staying relaxed.
Do that over and over, and the confidence comes on its own. And the kids they’re lining up against? Most of them aren’t training at all. Yours is.
One program for every sport
Football, basketball, soccer, baseball, volleyball and track athletes train together, because every sport rewards the kid who gets there first. We work on:
- Speed: sprint form, arm drive, knee drive, the first few steps.
- Agility: cutting, moving side to side, changing direction without slowing down.
- Power: jumping, broad jumps, lunges, running against speed cords and bands, the sand pit in some sessions.
Never more than 8 kids per session, ages 8 to 18. Outdoors at Plum Creek Park April to September, on a private indoor court October to March. Plans start at $150 a month, month to month. Full details on the Seward group program.
It's spreading by word of mouth
This summer I trained a group of nine kids in McCool Junction. Several of those families texted me asking me to come back next summer. Their favorite thing was the parachute. Now I’ve got speed cords and kinetic bands too, so next year that group goes further.
Parents also send my info to the other families on their kid’s basketball and football teams. Have a group of Lincoln families or a whole team? Ask me about training your group.
Text me before you make the drive
Send me your kid’s age, sport and what you want to fix. I’ll tell you which day fits and whether the group or a private session makes more sense. Then you can decide if the drive is worth it.
